Welcome to the Water Sprites

Welcome to the Water Sprites blog! In this first post, I wanted to share a little about me, the inspiration behind Water Sprites and my unique approach to enjoying water with children.

My name is Liz and I’ve always had a natural affinity with water. From learning to swim with Lincoln Vulcans to competing for my club and county, swimming has been a big part of my life from an early age.

My school years were spent between the pool and the track, combining swimming with running. I was a proud champion of the National Schools Biathlon Event. While studying at Sheffield Hallam University I juggled my Physiotherapy degree with work as a lifeguard.

As a mum, time in the pool is a big part of family life. Both my boys are very natural in the water but this wasn’t always the case. In fact my youngest went through a fearful phase when he lacked confidence in the water. It took lots of patient effort and gentle support to nurture the merman he is today!

Luckily teaching children to swim feels like my calling in life; when the opportunity arose for me to take over Water Sprites, it felt like it was meant to be! For me, it’s a joy to see little ones, including my own, succeed and flourish in the water. Time in the pool feels like time well spent; where else can children learn, build confidence, have fun and enjoy such unique freedom of movement, all whilst developing important life and safety skills?

At Water Sprites, I work with both parents and children using a gentle, fun, child-led approach; think musical instruments, singing, floats, toys, games and lots of opportunities to bond with your child through one-to-one time together.

It’s important to me that parents and children always feel like they are safe hands at Water Sprites. Rest assured, as a practising Physio, baby massage and yoga teacher, I have knowledge and experience of all things physical! I will never rush you or your baby; all the classes are carefully planned to be age and ability appropriate. I’m DBS Checked and First Aid at Work trained and a member of the Swimming Teachers Association (STA) which provides public liability insurance. Recently, I’ve become one of only a handful of teachers in England to complete the STA Baby and Preschool Diploma.

So please come and dip your toes in the magical world of Water Sprites! An aquatic adventure for you and your baby awaits!
